Eee Site is now Liliputing!
In order to better cover the diverse array of mini computers coming to market, Eee Site is moving to a new domain: Liliputing.com.
So it turns out that that there's a way to boot a live Ubuntu environment from a USB flash disk without spending six minutes waiting for your Eee PC to be ready. OasisBob over at EeeUser has put together a handy little Xubuntu LiveCD designed specifically for Eee PC users. Basically, its just a regular Xubuntu installation disc/LiveCD, but with a few Eee friendly tweaks like:
- Adjustments for the low resolution desktop
- Native WiFi drivers
- WLAN support

Running eeeUbuntu on a SDHC 4G right now with no problems. It's a breeze if you follow the instructions on the wiki for installing to SDHC. I just leave the card in the eeePC and normally boot from it. If I want to boot from the internal memory just hit ESC on startup and pick the internal store (or use GRUB via the SDHC to get the same results.)

I tried eeeXUbuntu, but I think Xandros is a good distro for eee pc.

I installed with a cdrom, and I am quite happy. I intend to install virtualBox ou vmware-player to virtualize winXP.
Other installations include mdbtools, interbase, unix-odbc.
